Anglian Water has joined forces with Milton Keynes Council’s Low Carbon Team to take part in the EU funded project – Political Awareness on Water (POWER) – which is aiming to highlight the value of water and the importance of water efficiency by working with local schools and community groups.
Despite the increase in flooding reports, the East of England is still one of the driest regions in the UK with the amount of rainfall decreasing over the last few years. The project will raise awareness of why using water wisely is important, and hopes to encourage people in the city to save as much as possible.
Information, stories and activities will be gathered from the schools and local community groups involved in the project, alongside feedback from other areas across Europe, to create an interactive online community on a wide range of water issues. Its aim is to leave a legacy of water efficiency resources that will carry on growing even after the project ends.
Caroline Donnelly, Community Education Centre Manager from Anglian Water said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to work collaboratively with Milton Keynes Council to reach as many schools and community groups as possible and encourage everyone to think about where our water comes from, how we all use it and why it’s so important to use it wisely.”
Anglian Water are offering further information sessions for teachers where they can find out more about the project and see the educational resources available to support them. Activities are available for pupils of all ages focussing on issues such as water supply, quality and efficiency. These sessions are open to all schools in Milton Keynes.
The sessions will take place on the following dates and locations and will especially benefit co-ordinators of Science, Geography, PHSE and Eco-schools:
